Cascade Head

This 4 mile round trip hike takes you up a protected coastal prairie headland. You'll enjoy spectacular views, wildlife and wildflowers. You can read more about Cascade Head on the Nature Conservancy website.

Head N on US 101 from Lincoln City. Just N of the Salmon River, turn W on Three Rocks Road. At 2 miles, take the left fork and park in the Knight Park parking lot. The trailhead begins there. It crosses through private and U.S. Forest Service property and over a narrow winding road. In a short while you'll exit the woods and begin climbing a narrow trail up the headlands. It can be chilly at the summit and the coast can become quickly and unexpectedly fogged in, so bring adequate clothing.

This is the view looking south. The beach in the foreground is very private, accessibly by crossing the river at left or by a primitive road.

The trail is narrow - barely visible in this photo.

This is where my vertigo starts to kick in!
