This hike is especially popular in spring when the wildflowers
are blooming in the open meadows at the summit, but you can climb Dog
any time of the year. The trail is steep and strenuous, gaining nearly
3,000 feet in 3 miles.
To get there, follow Interstate 84 east from Portland to the Bridge of
the God in Cascade Locks. Cross the bridge ($1 toll) and follow Washington
route 14 east to milepost 53. The large parking lot is well marked and
is on the left.
