Wildwood Trail
The Wiildwood
Trail stretches for 30 miles through Portland's Washington Park and
Forest
Park. The trail begins in Washington Park near the Vietnam Memorial.
You can park across from the trailhead in a small lot and start from there,
although there are hundreds of access points along the trail's 30-mile
length.
This page describes
the first section of the trail, from the Vietnam Memorial to the Pittock
Mansion, about 3.5 miles.

The starting point! From here you can hike all the way to Newberry Road,
a 30-mile trek within the city of Portland.

Pass a sign
pointing to the Marquam Trail, which leads 2 miles to Council
Crest, another great city hike.

You'll pass a large green water tank after the junction with Holly Trail.

A little further on look for a viewpoint with a marker where the Wildwood
meets Holly Trail again.

From the viewpoint
you can see your destination, the Pittock Mansion.
| The trail follows a road for a short
distance and passes the archery range. It looks like some people have
confused the sign with the targets in the background. |
 |
Invasive English Ivy has overrun
large portions of the park. Volunteers try to eradicate it, which
is about as likely to happen as the extinction of cockroaches.
I like English Ivy. |

 |
| The Winter Garden (above) is a few
yards to the left the the trail. |
 |
 |
| The Wildwood is wide and well-worn,
the superhighway of PDX trails. |
 |
| You arrive in a parking lot at the
rear of the Pittock Mansion. Walk
around to the front for terrific views. |
