McNeil Point
Stand above the timberline and
get to know Mt. Hood up close and personal! This is one my favorite hikes
on Mt. Hood. You climb through beautiful woods, past several ponds and
a series of sparkling mountain brooks, then exit the forest into alpine
meadows filled with wildflowers.
To get there, take Route 26, the Mt. Hood Highway, east from Portland
to the town of ZigZag. Look for East Lolo Pass Road on the left. Follow
Lolo Pass Road to forest road 1825. Where 1825 forks, stay to the left.
Don't take the bridge! 1825 becomes 1827 and eventually becomes a gravel/dirt
road. Stay to the left where the road fork again. 2 miles later you'll
come to the Top Spur Trail parking area. There's a porta-potty there.
NW Forest Pass required.
I've posted a gallery of McNeil Point hike
photos here.

This hike offers some great views of Mt Hood.
The view looking down isn't bad either!

I shot these wildflowers on a July hike.
Above the treeline on a September hike.

The McNeil Point stone shelter.

A Google Earth view. I think I've found it but I'll need
a GPS to be confirm.
